Competition in the pre-Christmas book trade gets fiercer by the year and in no sector is this more true than in that of children's fiction. Longtime dominant players in the field Ladybone Books (a division of The Threadbone Press) are already "at it", wrong-footing rivals by choosing to publish Brian's Book of Interesting Buildings more than three weeks ahead of schedule.
Previous titles in the series - which feature the adventures of friends Brian, Amanda and Edna - have proven a bookseller's dream with both Threadstones and the orinoco store reporting record sales in the critical pre-Christmas run-up in 2016 as well as in the subsequent January 2017 book token clearance period. A spokesperson for Threadstones - The Quality High Street Bookseller - Ms Davina Booke-Stande said today, "We are really excited about the new Brian story, it's exciting, educational, challenging in its willingness to address difficult themes, and beautifully illustrated. We believe parents will want their children to read this book and then wish they hadn't. Which is generally good for initial sales but not Charity Shop recycling." Publishers Ladybone Books would only say - ahead of their major Press Conference on Friday - "We confirm a new title in our Culinary Bio-ethics Series and as those familiar with the series would expect, it does not shirk its Culinary Bio-ethical responsibilities".
Copies of the book are embargoed until the weekend, going on general sale at 9am on Saturday and for this reason it is not easy to give a detailed impression of the book's content. However, we understand it involves Brian and some buildings. Queues are expected.

The latest title in Ladybone Book's Culinary Bio-ethics for Children Series Brian's Book of Interesting Buildings is, as usual, a heady mixture of adventure, excitement and Liberal-Stalinist-Fascist-Christian-Zionist propaganda.
