Executives at the Threadbone Press were left in red-faced embarrassment today as it emerged that their recently published prestige reproduction of Allan Ian's iconic "Iconic Dorset" had used the wrong edition of the work. Described as booth "a schoolboy error" and "an appalling lapse of judgement bordering on the criminal", eyes were also turned on veteran series editor Iris Cocksedge who is assumed to be complicit in the "blunder of blunders".
Rival publishers are said to be delighted at this, the latest in a series of own goals "scored" by the publisher since it moved into its new digital facility on the Threadbone Corporation-owned Great Heaving Complex. An embarrassed and red-faced spokesperson for the Press - Jonty Rouge - was at a loss to explain how it had happened. "I am at a loss to explain how this has happened", she said, "though I can say that we are doing all we can to correct an unfortunate error which occurred as a result of our digitisation of the wrong edition of the book. The first edition consisted of only 5 sections whilst the revised, updated and expanded edition of two years later added a further two with additional drawings by Evadne Trellis. It is the latter of the two which we intended to make available, but we seem to have got it wrong." "We are not looking to scapegoat anyone", she added, "but someone as experienced and knowledgeable as Ms Cocksedge should not have allowed this to happen".
The Threadbone Press has also issued the following statement to clarify the position of those who have already purchased the "wrong" edition of the book:
"We apologise to all those who, eager to obtain an early copy of this important volume have purchased in haste and would like to reassure them that we will do all within our power to offer them restitution. To this effect they can either:
